The Taiaha is a traditional weapon of the Maori of New Zealand and a chiefs weapon of authority.
Taiaha are usually between 5 to 6 feet in length. One end is flat and about two-and-a-half inches wide; this is the striking end and is termed the rau or blade. The other end is carved in the form of a face and tongue, and is known as the ‘arero’ This end is used for stabbing the opponent.
