Hawaiian Makau Bone Necklace - Hand Carved Fish Hook Pendant with Traditional Motifs

Regular price $42.00 USD

A Hawaiian Makau (fish hook) pendant hand-carved from ethically sourced bovine bone. This masculine, statement-scale artifact measures 68mm by 40mm, features deep-relief traditional line engravings, and is designed with an aggressive, sharply pointed barb.

This piece is a contemporary rendering of the Hawaiian Makau (fish hook), an iconic symbol representing strength, safe passage across open water, and good fortune.

The artifact is hand-sculpted from sustainable, cattle bone. It is defined by a heavy, masculine cross-section and a prominent, aggressively pointed dual-stepped barb. The outer dynamic spine is incised with traditional linear Hawaiian motifs, emphasizing clean geometric geometry.

As a porous organic medium, the polished bone surface will naturally absorb the skin oils of the wearer over time, gradually developing a rich, characteristic honey-gold patina. The pendant is mounted to a heavy, black cord fitted with adjustable slip knots for custom display lengths.
