Hand-Carved Maori Hei Matau Necklace - Fish Hook Pendant | Museum Inspired

Regular price $58.00 USD

This finely carved Hei Matau, crafted from cattle bone with paua (abalone) shell inlays for the eyes, reflects the artistry and symbolism of traditional Maori culture. Inspired by an original piece from the early 1800s, now held at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, this pendant embodies the fish hook motif, symbolizing prosperity, strength, and protection.

Carved on both sides, this pendant measures 60mm in height and 45mm in width. It is suspended from an adjustable cord woven from natural flax fibers.
