"WORN BY WARRIORS"
This is a hand-carved Makau pendant, a representation of traditional Hawaiian maritime tools and symbolism. The piece is constructed from carved wood, featuring a prominent bone barb.
Measuring 10.3cm (approximately 4 inches) in height, 6.5cm (approximately 2.5 inches) in width, and 1.2cm (approximately 0.5 inches) in depth, the pendant is hand-carved wood with detailed work on both sides, a bone barb insert, and an adjustable cord for suspension.
The "Makau," or Hawaiian fish hook, symbolizes strength, prosperity, and safe ocean passage. Traditionally crafted from materials like bone and wood, it represents a deep connection to the sea and its abundance. Wearing a Makau honors ancestral fishing traditions and invokes the sea's protective spirit, making it a powerful emblem of cultural identity.
