A 380mm (15") hand-carved wooden Taiaha, a detailed display replica of the most famous Maori long-staff weapon. Featuring a carved head with shimmering paua shell eyes and a defiant tongue, it serves as a prestigious symbol of leadership, the power of speech, and warrior strength.
The Taiaha is the most respected of all traditional Maori weapons, acting as a powerful icon for chiefs and leaders. This piece shows the three main parts of the staff: the Arero (Tongue), which represents the "breath of life"; the Upoko (Head), which features ancestral faces to watch for threats in all directions; and the Rau (Blade), the flat end used in traditional martial arts.
While traditional Taiaha measure 1.5 to 1.8 meters, this 38cm handheld version is designed as a display piece.
