HEI MATAU
This Hei Matau is hand-carved and decorated with three triangular paua shell inlays. It measures 60mm high by 35mm wide and has a black cord wrapped around the shank. The Hei Matau is a symbol of strength, good luck, and prosperity in Maori culture and is associated with the Maori god of the sea, Tangaroa. It is believed to bring abundance and is often given as a gift to wish someone well on a journey or new venture. The hook shape of the Hei Matau represents the idea of "bringing things in" and can be seen as a metaphor for bringing in good fortune and success.
