NIHO POAKA - Boar Tusk Pendant
Symbolizing Maori hunting tradition, This Niho Poaka is a pendant crafted from wild boar tusk, embodies strength and heritage.
Throughout Māori history, pigs (poaka) have held significance. While it's believed that the original Polynesian settlers of Aotearoa didn't bring pigs with them, they quickly became integral to Māori life after Captain Cook's arrival. Pigs provided sustenance, cleaning scraps, and offering a rich source of meat and fat. Maori hunters developed keen skills in pig hunting, and the tradition of wearing poaka tusks as adornments continues to this day.
