This medium-sized contemporary Hei Manaia pendant, hand-carved from cattle bone with intricate line work and traditional engravings, features a serpent body with elongated fingers, a bird head, and a fish tail. Measuring 120mm by 35mm and weighing 28g, the pendant is adorned with paua shell inlays for its eyes and a triangular paua shell inlay on the tail.
In Maori tradition, The Manaia symbol is significant as a guardian against evil and a bearer of spiritual energy, making this pendant not only a visually striking accessory but also a meaningful representation of beauty and protection.
